This thing called “worry”
Scripture
Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
Observation
As humans, we have the tendency to always think ahead. However truth be told, today has enough problems to carry the problems of tomorrow on our backs. If God will give us His son , what good thing can He truly withhold from us ? (Psalms 84:11) “Gentiles”today are a representation of those who are in the world , who lack a good shepherd. It makes sense for people in the world to worry because truly who is looking out for them ? However as children of God we have a good Father who takes care of His own. One thing I also observed is how God knows the things we “need” . Prior to these scriptures , Jesus was using creation as a point of reference to show we gain nothing by worrying. Birds that are in the sky don’t store up food or sow anything yet God watches over them and provides. God feeding the birds of the sky proves that He doesn’t neglect His creation. He takes care of His own. In summary if our priority is God’s agenda , we lack nothing .
Application
If indeed nothing can separate us from the love of God (Romans 8:38-39) then we need to come to a place of understanding that God will ALWAYS make sure we’re good and well taken care of. If God is aware of our needs then all we need to do is to cast our cares on Him. He’s not blindsided by the things we need. Seeking after the kingdom means making everything we do, even the mundane activities to promote the kingdom of God. In our conversations do we push kingdom agenda? In our work places are we a representation of God’s kingdom here on earth ? In our character , do we exude the character of Jesus ? In how we approach life and decisions, is it in line with biblical principles ? Whenever we feel like certain needs are not being met it’s important to ask ourselves is this truly a need or a want ? We have to trust that God will not withhold any good thing from us.
Prayer
Heavenly Father please bring me into a revelation of Your love and care for me. Let the mind of Christ Jesus be in me. Help me to not worry and to fully trust in You to supply all my needs. In Jesus name I pray amen.
