Have we stolen God’s glory ?

Have we stolen God’s glory ?

Scripture

Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, But to Your name give glory, Because of Your mercy, Because of Your truth. - Psalms 115:1

Observation

One thing I instantly observed from this scripture is the fact that “not unto us” was repeated twice. When something is mentioned twice, our attention is being drawn to it because it suggests emphasis. I thought to myself why could it be so important? As human beings we can steal God’s glory. This may seem far fetched but when we take credit for our achievements for instance without directing the praise to God we steal His glory. When we refuse to share testimonies the Holy Spirit is leading us to share with others, we steal His glory. Testimonies for instance is one of the powerful tools to overcome the enemy (Revelations 12:11) and magnify God’s power and greatness. It helps with the faith of the believer. Always moaning and complaining without giving gratitude to God also robs Him of His glory because you insinuate His hand is not tangible even in the mundane (ie gift of life). Two attributes are given in this scripture as to why it’s necessary to give God His glory and honestly those are enough. If not for the mercy of God, our adversary will tear us into pieces (1 Peter 5:8). If not for His truth we will be wallowing in sin and in darkness.

Application

As children of God, we need to contend with pride always so it doesn’t overcome us. When you start to feel like YOU’RE the reason for your success and achievements, it’s a dangerous place to be at. When you start to exalt yourself and your capabilities and don’t acknowledge the hand of God in your life, it is also dangerous . This thing called pride is what caused satan to fall and till date humanity is in consistent contention with him because of it. Granted it’s not every testimony or news that needs to be shared in the open yet. However when the Holy Spirit is nudging us to share, it’s important we walk in obedient. Give honour and praise to God always (Psalms 113:3). It’s something He expects from us when we look at the parable of the 10 lepers. God questioned where the other 9 lepers were when only one came to give Him praise for healing him (Luke 17:18). Praise is boasting in the Lord, putting the spot light on Him, being undignified and lifting His name privately and publicly. Yes intimacy matters , but God wants to be loved , adored and honoured out loud in our work places , social gatherings, friendship groups etc.

Prayer

Heavenly Father thank You for all You do for me. Forgive me where I’ve not acknowledged You in my life. Forgive me where I’ve been silent about Your wondrous works. Take all the glory in My life . Thank You for Your truth and mercy in Jesus name Amen.
