The truth behind Easter.
Scripture
“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29
Observation
Prior to this scripture, John was being questioned about who he was. This is because he had been baptising people and they thought he must have been a prophet to have the authority to do so. However in the scripture we’re looking at today , John saw Jesus approaching him the next day and begun to announce who exactly Jesus is. This is the right question they should have asked him initially.I’ve always found it fascinating why a “lamb” has been used to describe Jesus. Upon researching the characteristics of a lamb , it is an animal that is seen as pure and innocent. Mirroring this to Jesus, He took upon our sins and shed innocent blood to save us when He didn’t have to (1 Peter 2:24). Lambs are also seen as gentle and meek animals. Jesus was obedient to His father God, even obedient up until the point of death (Philippians 2:8) . A man who would have had things go the opposite direction at the last hour but still chose to obey God (Matthew 26:39) . Lambs are also dependent on their care takers due to vulnerability, follow their leadings and we see this with Jesus and His father.
Application
It’s important to walk in the character Jesus walked in . First and foremost , God wants us to be pure and free from sin. The truth is because of what Jesus did, His pure blood can always be used to cleanse our sins when we fall short (1 John 1:7) . Living a life of repentance and recognising your dependence on God is the best heart posture to always have. Pride is what makes you think you’re above or better than others because you sin “differently” from them. In the eyes of God, sin is sin. No one is perfect and yes we will fall short, it is important to call unto God in a place of humility so He can make you pure and whole again ( 2nd chronicles 7:14) . The price has already been paid for our sins but it’s important to know it’s not automatically yours. Two requirements have to be met for salvation , first believe in your heart that God has raised Jesus from the dead and confess that Jesus is Lord (Romans 10:9). Even when we’d rather do things differently, it is important to always be submissive to the will of God.
