The righteous cries out and the Lord delivers!
Scripture
“The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart and saves such as have a contrite spirit.” Psalms 34:17-18
Observation
This scripture brings things into perspective as a child of God. The Bible says we are the righteousness of God through faith in Christ Jesus (2nd Corinthians 5:21) . However embodying righteousness doesn’t mean you won’t go through trials and tribulations. On the contrary this scripture confirms that hardships, distress, troubles etc may arise. However we shouldn’t fret when they do because God will come to the rescue. The scripture also makes it clear we are delivered from “all” troubles not “some”.
The irony is when you feel broken hearted, you feel as though, no one could understand what you’re going through . Sometimes you may also feel as though you’re in it all alone but this scripture is letting us know that even at our lowest, God is near us. It’s not God’s will that we perish (2 Peter 3:9) , He wants to save and deliver us.
Application
Though we receive our righteousness by faith (Romans 3:22) it’s equally important to live a righteous and moral life. God is attentive to cry of those who live right by Him. If God not only hears our cry but also delivers us, then it is important to refrain from being quiet on calling on the name of the Lord. Whenever we’re going through troubles of any kind, it’s not the time to moving from friend to friend expressing our grief and suffering. It’s the time to go down on our knees in our secret place expressing ourselves to God first. The wisdom of God will then lead you to the right people to share your burdens with. We shouldn’t refrain from asking for help because God is ever ready to extend a helping hand to us. To lift our burdens and to make our loads a lot easier to carry (Matthew 11:28-30) . Having a “this too shall pass because the Lord sees and hear me” mindset will help us a great deal. Furthermore, a contrite spirit is a state of true repentance and humility. When we know we’ve sinned whether against God or man it’s important to not be prideful or make up excuses for it so we can truly invite the intervention of God.
