The gift of God.

The gift of God.

Scripture

Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.”John 4:10

Observation

This is a scripture that was birthed from Jesus Himself. We know He’s the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6) meaning this isn’t a scripture that should be taken lightly. Prior to this scripture, Jesus was having a conversation with a Samaritan woman about needing water to drink. However the woman had questioned Him on why He was asking her for water (Reason being Jesus was a Jew and Jews wanted nothing to do with Samaritans ). Looking at this scripture, Jesus was a man that didn’t let culture hinder the spreading of the good news of salvation . The ministry of Jesus brought about the gift of salvation (John 3:16) as well as the gift of the Holy Spirit (John 15:26) . Here Jesus was expressing to the woman that He had something better for her than the water He originally asked her for. A gift implies we have nothing to do to earn or work for it and this is the basis of salvation and the Holy Spirit coming to dwell in us.

Application

There’s a thirst we all have as humans and that’s why people look to quench that with the things of the world.Truth is, the things of the world does not satisfy but it also leads us into destruction. Let’s take a look at some of the things like sexual immorality , drugs , idolatry of friendships , all these and more lead us astray. However God is inviting us to drink of the living water . From a well that never runs dry. Turning to the Holy Spirit and allowing Him to lead our lives will always have us filled up. This prevents us from running to the things of the world. In the scripture we are told to ask, God doesn’t force Himself on us so we always have to remember to initiate to show interest. That’s why we knock and the door is opened, we seek and we find, we ask and we’re given. (Matthew 7:7)

Prayer

Heavenly Father thank You for Your word today. May Your word hide in my heart. I ask Abba Father that You give me this water that never runs dry. I ask that You quench the thirst that is in me in Jesus name I pray amen.
