“Why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it.’ “Then, turning to the others standing nearby, the king ordered, ‘Take the money from this servant, and give it to the one who has ten pounds.’ “‘But, master,’ they said, ‘he already has ten pounds!’ “‘Yes,’ the king replied, ‘and to those who use well what they are given, even more will be given. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.” Luke 19:23-26
Observation
This scripture was birthed from Jesus explaining how the kingdom of God can be likened to a noble man who gave His servants each one pound to do business until He returns back from a journey. Though some of the servants had multiplied their money, there was one servant who hid his money (without saving or investing) and brought it out when it was time to give account to his master.
This is a very profound scripture we’re looking at today. Jesus when He left did not leave us (His children) with nothing. In fact He left us with a gift, the Holy Spirit (John 14:16). It is the Holy Spirit that equips us to build and obtain profit as He comes with gifts (wisdom , miracles etc.. 1st Corinthians 12:4) and fruits ( love , patience etc ..Galatians 5:22-23). God certainly does not want us to remain stagnant in any area of our lives. He expects us to utilise all that He’s left us with here on earth to build His kingdom until He returns. Judgement is coming and what each person has done here on earth will have repercussions.
Application
From the beginning of our existence , we have been given sets of instructions especially through the word of God (John 1:1) and it’s important to honestly ask these questions as a believer.. Am I being fruitful and taking dominion here on earth (Genesis 1:28) ? Am I stirring up the gifting that is within me to help build the kingdom of God (2 Timothy 1:6) ? Am I light in a world full of darkness ? ( Matthew 5:14) Am I utilising the Holy Spirit as I ought to ? Let’s take a look at the gifts for instance, the wisdom God has given you, how are using that to build His kingdom ? The word of knowledge you have, when you receive a dream concerning a fellow brethren for instance do you pray and stand in the gap for them or are you gossiping about them ? The administrative gift you have , how is that being used to benefit the kingdom ? Even the word of God that has been left with us to empower us to think , feel and act , how often do you read it ?
Prayer
Heavenly Father thank You for Your Holy Spirit that You left us with . Forgive me where I have been complacent and lazy. Help me to utilise that which You have placed on the inside of me so that I get a great reward and I’m able to please You. In Jesus name I pray amen .
