Run, don’t walk from sexual sin.

Run, don’t walk from sexual sin.

Scripture

”Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. Don’t you realise that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:18-20

Observation

This scripture on sexual immorality always stands out to me. Reason being we’re not commanded to stay and fight it but to run. It puts things into perspective because indeed by own strength shall no man prevail. We are not strong enough to stay and see how best we can fight it but we are to run away from it like our life depends on it because it does. Some versions of the Bible use the word “flee” which means to run away quickly from danger or to take flight. If the Holy Spirit dwells in us and we’re not creating a conducive environment for Him the question is, what then is inhabiting in us when we’re being intimate with people outside of the covenant of marriage? Our bodies hosts a spirit so if it’s not hosting the Holy Spirit, what is it hosting ? Spirit of lust ? Anger ? Fear ? Greed ? You name them. (Food for thought).. it’s not news that when people are intimate with others they’ll start picking up on habits or patterns their sexual partner may have. Are we yoking ourselves to the various unclean spirits that people also living an immoral life have ?

Application

When we’re faced with sexual temptation it’s important to not stick around to see how far we can go and not get burned . It’s important to not even entertain thoughts but to just close doors or opportunities that arise and not look back. Furthermore we need to also remember we’ve been bought with a hefty price. Honouring God with our bodies means we don’t give in to our fleshly desires. It means actively waiting until marriage to have sex even when society pressures you into giving in. Men are not exempt from this. It means actively choosing to create an environment where the Holy Spirit can dwell in. The irony of all this is when we choose to honour God with our bodies, we benefit highly because we reap fruits and benefits the Holy Spirit has to offer which includes peace, love , joy , patience , blessings etc. (Galatians 5:22-23)
