No good thing will the Lord withhold from those who walk blamelessly.
Scripture
"For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favour and honour; no good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless. " - Psalm 84:11
Observation
This scripture speaks about the characteristics and attributes of God. Let’s unpack it , when I think of the sun I think of light . When the sun is around, darkness cannot exist due to the light the sun brings. Bringing this analogy in our life , God exposes darkness in our lives if we allow Him to find expression because He is a sun. When I think of a shield I think of protection. A shield typically provides protection from attacks. Now scripture lets us know our enemy is like a roaring lion looking for who to devour (1 Peter 5:8) so we need protection at all costs . Not just any protection but protection from Whom all power belongs to (Psalm 62:11) . We need God’s protection . The Lord God is also a giver. He gives favour and honour, these are things we need in this walk of life. Searched up the root meaning of “good thing” and it means pleasant , rich and excellent.
However I noticed this isn’t applicable to everyone . There’s a criteria for those who want to benefit from these attributes of God. It is those whose walks are blameless .
The root meaning of the word “blameless” means upright, whole and complete. I thought to myself is this really achievable ? and the Holy Spirit reminded me that the Spirit of God lives and works in us. If we permit Him to find expression, with God all things are possible. So yes, it is possible to walk blamelessly.
Application
By our strength it’s impossible to walk blameless . Why because the flesh (carnality) is always at war with the spirit. Human nature is sinful by default. However God being so good, He gifted us with His Spirit (The Holy Spirit) who is our Helper (John 14:26) . He’s the one who can help us to walk blamelessly.
So how then do we allow Him to help us ?
By being yielded and submitted to Him. The Holy Spirit is a gentleman. Due to the free will we have as humans, God will not force His Spirit on us. His spirit is constantly with us speaking to us. What we call “convictions”, is one of the ways the Holy Spirit speaks to us . However when we are convicted, it is our responsibility to heed to that which He is telling us to do. My small journey with Him has taught me that the more you’re obedient to Him, the easier it is to discern and the louder His voice gets. Submission looks like total surrender to God. It’s getting to the point in your Christian walk where you tell yourself not your will be done but the will of God be done . Even if it leads you to death yes . For Jesus Christ our blue print did this and He was obedient to death. (Philippians 2:8)
Prayer
Heavenly Father thank You for Your word today. I pray Lord asking for mercy and forgiveness of sins. Where I’ve not allowed You to find expression in my life, please forgive me. I recognise that no good thing will You withhold from me. Thank You for being a good God and a Giver. I yield and submit myself to Your Holy Spirit. Have your way in my life. In Jesus name I pray amen
