Love God with ALL of you.
Scripture
”Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts” Deuteronomy 6:5-6
Observation
To love the Lord isn’t a suggestion but a commandment. This means that it’s not optional as a child of God. This scripture also implies that there’s degrees to loving God. We can love Him partially with our heart, soul and strength. The heart is not just the human organ but is translated to the inner man, desires, appetite, mind, will, passion and understanding . Our soul also translates to our mind, emotions and will. Our strength translates to doing so with every fibre of our being . This means with every determination physically , mentally and emotionally, it is important to love God and to keep this commandment.
Application
Jesus told the disciples that if they loved Him they will obey His commandments. (John 14:15). One of the most certain ways to express our love towards God is to obey Him. We know the Bible is a manual that God has left with us to teach us everything we need to know (2 Timothy 3:16) . It is important to follow and obey the word of God. Loving God with all your heart practically looks like your mind obeys Him ie fear is creeping in but you choose not to wallow in it instead you cast down thoughts that exalt itself above the knowledge of God. It looks like your will obeying Him, ie a friend comes to you and proceeds to gossip but you restrain yourself from it because you know as a child of God , it’s not a practice endorsed by God. It looks like having emotions that glorify the Lord, ie not allowing jealousy, envy, malice to be filled in our heart.
Prayer
Heavenly Father thank You for Your word today. Help me to love You with all my heart, soul and strength. Where I have idolised anything or anyone please forgive me . Be king over Me and help me to obey You always in Jesus name Amen.
