Have you defiled your promise land ?

Have you defiled your promise land ?

Scripture

“And when I brought you into a fruitful land to enjoy it’s bounty and goodness, you defiled My land and corrupted the possession I had promised you.” Jeremiah 2:7

Observation

This scripture was God speaking to Judah and Israel, His chosen people. Prior to this scripture, He was mentioning how He remembers when they lived a life which was centred around Him and His holiness. God was reminding them there was a time they had promised to just love and serve Him alone. A promise they made to God at a time when they had nothing to their name. Now unfortunately when they entered into their harvest and into the promise land, they abandoned God and served other gods.

Here in this scripture, God is letting them know He led them into a land to enjoy only for them to defile it. Let’s mirror this scripture to our own lives shall we ? How many times do we neglect God when He finally gives us that which we’ve been desiring and praying for ? Some of us don’t show up to church when we finally get the job we’ve prayed for. In fact, we end up picking extra shifts on Sundays. Another example, when we finally get that relationship we’ve been waiting for, we end up idolising it or defiling it with sexual immorality for instance when it’s meant to be a blessing from God.

Application

It is very easy to make promises and pledges to God when we are in our wilderness . It’s also easy to keep our gaze on Him alone when we haven’t yet received that which we long for. James 1:14 lets us know we’re all tempted by our own evil desires .These evil desires can easily compete with the place of God in our lives. It’s important we do not forget God when we walk into our promises. We need to take intentional decisions that allows God to still be our main priority.

It’s silly for us to leave the source of what we desire. It’s important we always remain at the feet of Jesus through prayers , word study , fasting , going to church to receive sound doctrine etc . Making Jesus the centre of everything in your life is the safest place you can be. Obtaining a promise is one thing , but it’s important to maintain it . You will need the help of God to attain both grace and mercy. These of which He encourages us to boldly come and obtain (Hebrews 4:16) . This is what makes you a good steward of the land and the possessions God has gifted you with. The enemy has a funny way of perverting the blessings which God has given us. Reverence and fear for God is very vital to make sure we don’t take the bait of the enemy.

Prayer

Heavenly Father thank You for Your word today. Thank You for allowing me to walk and to to live in answered prayers. Where I have defiled any possessions or blessings from You, I plead the blood of the lamb that Your blood will wash my sins away. I repent of all known and unknown sins in Jesus name I pray Amen. 🙏🏾
