God is not a man that He should lie.
Scripture
“God is not a man, so He does not lie. He is not human, so He does not change His mind. Has He ever spoken and failed to act? Has He ever promised and not carried it through?” Numbers 23:19
Observation
This scripture was birthed after a man named Balak doubted the words of God he heard the first time round. Human beings are flawed , born in iniquity (Psalms 51:5) even before we accept Jesus as our personal saviour . We battle with the flesh everyday. For this reason alone , inevitably we’re bound to lie at some point . A lot of us have probably dealt with people we put our trust into who didn’t come through or uphold their word. Others have also failed or betrayed us miserably. What do we do ? We put up our guard and question almost everything or lose faith.
On the other hand , God is the truth (John 14:6), it is impossible for Him to lie as He embodies truth. Humans are quick to change their mind when feelings, facts , circumstances etc change but God doesn’t . Yes He’s compassionate but He exalts His words even above His name (Psalms 138:2). What He says He will do and promises is what He does. None of His words return to Him void (Isaiah 55:11).
Application
How many of us have heard promises of God in our lives but are still doubting? It is important to not lower your expectations with God because of unbelief. In fact the irony of all this is, you need to have incredibly high hopes and expectations with God if you want to please Him (Hebrews 11:6 ) . Knowing that God is not a man that He should lie, whatever promises that requires your active participation, obey with all your might and strength. For instance God shows you that you’ll have a successful business, work towards it with diligence and prudence because you know in the end it will not fail because God does not lie . Even when things are not going as planned , be steadfast because God doesn’t change His mind. In fact He is a miracle worker who makes a way where there seems to be no way. Circumstances may not always appear favourable but trust God and lean not on your own understanding.
Prayer
Heavenly Father thank You for Your word today. Thank You that You’re not a man who lies or changes His mind. Where I have doubted You forgive me. Help me with my unbelief Lord in Jesus name I pray amen.
