Father of Mercy and Comfort in tribulations,

Father of Mercy and Comfort in tribulations,

Scripture

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” - 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Observation

This scripture is giving us insight on God the Father, who is a part of the Holy Trinity. This scripture draws us into knowing some attributes of God the Father. First of all, He’s the Father of mercies. Mercy is compassion or forgiveness shown towards someone whom it is within one's power to punish or harm. In the world we live today , mercy is something we all desperately need. Our fleshy desires, ignorance , disobedience amongst many others gives the enemy legal rights to gain access into our lives but by the mercies of God most of us don’t get what we truly deserve.

Not only is He the Father of mercy but He’s our comforter. The scripture says God comforts us in ALL our tribulations so could it be we reject His comfort when we don’t feel comforted in tribulations? (Food for thought). We have a High Priest who is aware of our weaknesses and sympathises with us (Hebrews 4:15). We are never alone in tribulations, He’s always there. I love how intentional God is. He’s a master strategist because think about it, He knows very well how much of a ripple effect this can be . I mean the things you go through, you most likely will be equipped to deliver and guide others who are going through the same .

Application

It is very important we are our brother’s keeper. Situations you’ve come out from gives you a different kind of strength and perspective, it is crucial to pour that into your neighbour going through the same so they can come out comforted and victorious. We live in a world where we want to “ gatekeep” everything including our testimonies. However scripture lets us understand that we are one body. If a brother is afflicted , the whole body of Christ is also afflicted. We need to share each others burdens and pain. This is how we can have the opportunity to comfort others. We need to also allow God to comfort us . This looks like being vulnerable and honest with Him about how you feel. You feel disappointed with Him ? tell Him. You feel you’re being treated unfairly? Tell Him. You feel bitter ? Tell Him. I mean He sees our heart anyway . Go to Him withholding nothing and watch the peace of God which surpasses all understanding rest upon you. He gives comfort, peace , joy amongst many others. We need to boldly approach the throne of grace and mercy so we may obtain it for when we are in need. (Hebrews 4:16)

Prayer

Heavenly Father thank You for being a good Father. Thank You for being the Father of mercies and a God of all comfort. Even in my lowest You’ve always been there whether I was conscious of it or not and now I know. Grant me the grace to be my brother’s keeper and to share in their discomfort also. In Jesus Name I pray Amen.
