Do not be deceived, live right by God.
Scripture
“You can be sure that no sexual immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. Don’t be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey Him.” Ephesians 5:5-6
Observation
This is a scripture that teaches us the way we should live and behave as children of God. First and foremost it’s a scripture that clearly states what God accepts and what the consequences are if you choose to not live a life according to His standards. Having sexual relations outside of the boundaries of marriage, engaging in activities that promote wasteful behaviour such as profligate living , or having intense and selfish desires are all things God does not accept. How do we know this ? The scripture clearly states that participating in this means that you will not inherit the kingdom of God. In all honesty, there’s nothing the world has to offer more than God does . He came so that we may have life in abundance (John 10:10) Sometimes it may feel like we have the upper hand or we are getting away with these things but do not be deceived. The enemy will not present “death” to you as death but something that’ll bring “life” to your flesh. He’s the master of deception. The bible lets us know even the enemy appears as the angel of light. (2 Corinthians 11:14). If there’s one thing I’m sure of, there’s no pleasures of this life that is worth experiencing the anger of God. Yes we serve a God that is loving and merciful but He most certainly cannot be mocked (Galatians 6:7). Be sure to experience His wrath if you actively choose to live a life outside of His standards. Unlike men, the anger of God is always righteously justified.
Those who disobey God will experience His wrath. The root meaning of the word “disobedience” is obstinate opposition to God’s will. This is where you have a stubborn and an unwillingness in your attitude towards the will of God.
Application
Now we live in a world where a lot of things that are contrary to the standards of God are deemed as “okay “. it’s important as children of God we understand “society’s standards” does not ALWAYS equate to “God’s standards “.
It is okay to be the odd one out if everyone around you chooses to live a life of sexual immorality. We are called to be set apart. We are not called to live a life that everyone in the world lives. We are IN the world but not OF the world. Being set apart means you’re coming out from the many . In fact it should not be a surprise to us when our mindsets, the way we look , dress , act is all very different to the average person in the world . It’s okay to wait till marriage to have sexual activities, it’s okay to dress modestly, it’s okay to not watch entertainment that is not edifying. We’re here to live a life that pleases God and not society or yourself. Seek first the kingdom of God and everything your heart desires will be given to you. There will be no need for coveting or greed. Why ? because you choose to delight yourself in God (Matthew 6:33/psalm 37:4)
Whenever society pushes any agenda or mindset always go back to tally it with the word of God. If it does not subscribe to the Bible, do not subscribe or come into agreement with it. Stand firm in the truth and do not be swayed. You can only do this by continually feeding yourself with the word of God so your mind can be transformed. (Romans 12:2).
