Before glory comes suffering.

Before glory comes suffering.

Scripture

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. “- Romans 8:18

Observation

The apostle Paul was speaking in this scripture . It was a statement He made based on calculations He himself had made which of-course is inspired by the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 3:16) .From the first statement we can already see that this Christian walk isn’t all glorious and rosey. Yes there’s joy , peace , prosperity amongst others . However there’s this aspect that isn’t spoken about much . That is “suffering” , not suffering as a form of punishment but a necessary kind of suffering or affliction that results from God purging , purifying , testing and moulding us to be used as His workmanship (Ephesians 2:10). This suffering is inevitable and it’s a phase we all have to go through if we truly want to see the glory of God made manifest in our lives . It’s not pretty or rosey , it’s painful but all worth it . Jesus is our blueprint . When we look at His life whilst here on earth , He had to suffer whilst fulfilling purpose and He endured this suffering even to death. For this reason, He was given a name that has the highest authority in the heavens and earth .(Philippians 2:10). What makes it worth it is the fact that once the glory of God is revealed , you will not recall or take account that which happened when you suffered . God’s glory is His magnificence, splendour and His manifest presence . We need to remember that even creation is waiting on the manifestation of God’s children .

Application

As Christian’s we need to embrace the suffering that is allocated to us before the glory of God is made manifest in our lives . Think of it this way , you’re an impatient person consistently praying to God to help you to be patient which is a fruit of the Holy Spirit . Difficult and uncomfortable situations will have to be sent your way for you to exercise the patience you’re praying for right ?

James 1:2-4 tells us to consider it all pure joy when trials and tribulations arise . They are birthing God’s glory in us if we are able to endure until the end . You are able to carry the manifest presence of God which is His glory . You’re set apart in a tangible way and God uses you for His work.

Suffering is only but for a while, God’s glory on the other hand is for eternity (1 Peter 5:10) , let us hide this truth in our heart.

When we keep our mind on the glory that we will see , it changes our heart posture and allows us to endure even when it hurts . Also it’s important to lean on the Holy Spirit , our helper who will help us every step of the way.

Prayer

Heavenly Father thank You for Your word today. Help me to understand and embrace the suffering that has been allocated to me on my Christian journey . Help me to endure that I may be found worthy enough to also share in Your glory . In Jesus Name I Pray Amen .
