You reap what you sow
Scripture
“But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:6-7
Observation
We are all sowing whether we know it consciously or not. This scripture is one of my favourite biblical principles. There isn’t a grey area. What you sow is what you reap. One thing I observed from this scripture is that, it doesn’t specifically say you reap from WHERE you sowed. Could this possibly mean I can be sowing bountifully in the area of giving to the poor and the needy however I can reap by giving birth to children that have manifold graces on their lives as compared to the average child ? (Food for thought )
To sow sparingly means in a restricted or infrequent manner . This means even in our sowing, consistency matters as well not being restricted . What do I mean by not being restricted? Eg. You decided to give away £5 but the Holy Spirit tells you to give £10 instead. It’s important to leave room for yielding and submission to God. This means you’re not restricted.
In terms of consistency, frequency matters. Not just picking and choosing when you want to sow. This allows for you to also reap consistently .
If we’re honest with ourselves whenever we want to give , we’re convicted of how much we can give in our hearts . It’s important we do so cheerfully. This is exactly what the Lord is looking for.
Application
Knowing this principle, in theory nothing we do is for free . It’s important we have the mindset of the fact that the Lord sees and rewards us accordingly in all our dealings. Sowing bountifully isn’t limited to money but diligence in every area of our lives. You can sow bountifully in finances but when it comes to prayers and reading the word of God, you sow sparingly. Meaning you don’t allocate the necessary time needed in these areas.
The Lord loves that in our giving we’re not moaning, grieving or complaining but always checking our heart posture . We shouldn’t give out of coercion. The world will tell us it’s better to receive than to give . It is our duty to follow scriptures. For scripture says it’s blessed to give than to receive ( Acts 20:35) Have the expectation of reaping not from humans but from God. It is God who only rewards even when He uses the means of a man.
Prayer
Heavenly Father thank You for Your word today . I present my heart to you and ask that You help me to be a cheerful giver. Help me to understand the concept of sowing bountifully in every area of my life. Forgive me where I’ve not been a cheerful giver. In Jesus name I pray amen .
