Scripture
“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”- Hebrews 4:16
Observation
The existence of this scripture even before we get into it shows the love and the mercy of God . Isn’t it funny how when we feel like we’ve sinned , we run away from God ? The enemy through our thoughts makes us believe that we’re not worthy to be in the presence of God or we should be ashamed . However this scripture contradicts that and I love it . Here we’re actually being encouraged to come to God . We’re not just coming to Him but we are coming to Him “boldly” Some of the root meaning of this word “boldly” is “freedom in speaking” “openly”, “frankly, i.e without concealment without ambiguity or circumlocution” . This means God is not looking for our “big vocabulary “ or how refined our words sound. He just wants us to pour our hearts to Him. Raw and unfiltered. One of the root meaning of the word “grace” is
“the merciful kindness by which God, exerting His holy influence upon souls, turns them to Christ, keeps, strengthens, increases them in Christian faith, knowledge, affection, and kindles them to the exercise of the Christian virtues”.
I absolutely love this because here we see , grace is when there is the addition of the “God factor” to make life and our walk with God significantly easier . Mercy on the other hand is “kindness or good will towards the miserable and the afflicted, joined with a desire to help them”. Mercy is usually when we avoid getting consequences we truly deserve due to many factors like ignorance, rebellion, disobedience in a bloodline etc .
Application
We are not just approaching God for the sake of approaching Him but we are also going to the location of mercy and grace. It is our duty to not hide but to present ourselves before God especially in our times of need. When you find it hard to do something like an assignment or have a difficult conversation with a loved one for instance this is where grace comes in . Go for that grace to grant you the ability to do “hard” or “difficult” things. Grace will give you that fluidity and movement you need. I always tell my friends if you feel like slapping someone for instance tell God because God can see your heart anyway so why hide it ? 🤣 This scripture reaffirms that . He wants to deliver us and set us free. You feel like you’re struggling with lust , gossiping, comparing yourself to others ? just tell Him because He sees your heart and He wants to help.
Whenever we see negative patterns in our lives or our family , it’s a great time to also call out for mercy . Mercy is the help you’ll need to not remain afflicted or miserable.
Also noticed how we obtain mercy but we find grace ? “Obtain" implies a more deliberate and effortful process of acquiring something, often involving planning or requesting. "Find," on the other hand, can simply mean locating something, whether by chance or through a search, and doesn't necessarily imply an active effort to acquire it. A prime example is salvation requires intentionality and effort but you may have been born with manifold graces like discernment, diligence etc that you didn’t ask for.
Remember the key principle from this memory verse is to withhold nothing when coming before God .
Prayer
Abba Father thank You for Your provision as a Father, thank You that You love me so much You’re willing to forgive me for my error and pay my debt for me always with Your blood. Thank You that You help me to walk in life with Your manifold graces. Both what I currently have and what I am yet to receive. Help me Lord to come to You boldly withholding nothing in Jesus Name I pray Amen .
